GEEK

GEEK is a branding project for Kosuke Katano, a research scientist in biology at MIT Media Lab.
He proclaims himself Wild Scientist and GEEK. I was asked to design his business card and started this project as personal branding to convey his unique personality.

DESIGN

The first step was to create an eye-catching symbol. I approached it from Kosuke’s initials, K.K. and designed the letter K by combining rectangles and hexagons. These shapes were chosen because they can represent a benzene ring and DNA helix when they are arranged regularly.

The next step was making a graphic and putting information into it. His previous business card was full of information and he asked me to inherit the style. It was challenging but I arranged it as a part of a DNA-inspired graphic and obtained both beauty and readability.
