Product design of Hito no Game Cassette, released by the ARG brand D4KK, including the design of the fictional game console PLAYGATE and its physical production. The experience begins when a game cartridge that once belonged to someone else arrives in the player’s hands.

CASSETTE
The cartridge features a transparent outer shell, allowing the internal circuit board to be seen through its windows. Larger components such as memory ICs are deliberately exposed, creating the impression that someone’s gameplay data has been physically preserved inside. While drawing inspiration from the translucent game consoles and toys of the late 1990s, the transparency also plays an important role in reinforcing game experiences . In addition to the exterior design of the cartridge, the PCB design and component layout were developed as part of the same process, with each element positioned to achieve a balanced appearance once fully assembled.

PLAYGATE
In 1997, TEZKA released the original PLAYGATE. Its compact body, made from durable plastic, was packed with the consumer electronics manufacturer’s technology down to the smallest detail. The concept behind PLAYGATE was “Affordable, Durable, New.” Taking these three principles even further, the color edition of PLAYGATE was introduced as its next-generation successor. — From the official PLAYGATE website Design of TEZKA’s fictional game console “PLAYGATE,” created as the hardware platform for the game cartridge. A demonstration unit was exhibited at BitSummit in May 2026. The project also included the fabrication of the physical mock-up and hardware design for the demo unit.
